BOARD OF EDUCATION

MAY 29, 2013

Chairman Mitchell called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.  Members Mitchell, Thompson, Pfeffer, Lauer, Rasmussen, Abel, Schuster were present.  Superintendent Brooks and one visitor were also present.

Thompson moved Abel seconded to approve the agenda as presented.  Ayes:  All.

Brooks reported on the outdoor facility improvement project and recently passed legislation.

Member Lauer introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:

RESOLUTION PLACING RANDALL SIMS

ON UNREQUESTED LEAVE

OF ABSENCE

WHEREAS, the School Board of Independent School District No. 743 adopted a resolution proposing placement of Randall Sims on unrequested leave of absence on May 6, 2013, on the grounds of lack of pupils and financial limitations and

WHEREAS, said written notice of the proposed placement on unrequested leave was received by Randall Sims by certified mail on April 18, 2013, and

WHEREAS, said written notice of the proposed placement on unrequested leave contained a statement setting forth the reasons for the proposed placement as well as a statement that he was entitled to a hearing before the school board provided he make a request in writing within fourteen days of receipt of said notice, and that if no hearing was requested within said fourteen day period it constituted acquiescence by Randall Sims to the school board’s proposed action, and

WHEREAS, a written request for a hearing was received by the school board and superintendent of schools from Randall Sims on April 29, 2013 and further said request was withdrawn on May 22, 2013, and said withdrawal therefore constitutes acquiescence by Randall Sims to his placement on unrequested leave.

BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District #743 that Randall Sims be and hereby is placed on unrequested leave of absence as a teacher of Independent School District No. 743 on the grounds of lack of pupils and financial limitations effective at the end of the 2012-13 school year on June 30, 2013 pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Sec.122A.40, Subd. 11, without pay or fringe benefits.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a notice of placement on unrequested leave, together with a copy of this resolution, be forwarded to said teacher personally and that an affidavit of same be placed in his file, together with a copy of the notice and resolution.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Abel and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Abel, Lauer, Pfeffer, Rasmussen, Schuster, Thompson

and the following voted against the same:  Mitchell

whereupon said resolution was declared passed.

Lauer moved Schuster seconded to offer an additional 6.25% teaching contract to Randall Sims for 2013-2014 as recommended by the administration.  

Ayes:  Abel, Lauer, Pfeffer, Rasmussen, Schuster, Thompson

Nay:  Mitchell

Motion carried.

Lauer moved Abel seconded to offer an additional 6.25% teaching contract to Dana Boschee for 2013-2014 as recommended by the administration.

Ayes:  Abel, Lauer, Pfeffer, Rasmussen, Schuster, Thompson

Nay:  Mitchell

Motion carried.

Thompson moved Pfeffer seconded to offer an additional 50% teaching contract to Kelsey Herickhoff for 2013-2014 as recommended by the administration.

Ayes:  All.

Following review and discussion Thompson moved Lauer seconded to approve the consent agenda as follows:

-Approve the Minutes of May 21, 2013 as presented;

-Acknowledge the administration’s acceptance of the retirement resignation of Richard Orth, thanking him for 45 years of service to the District;

- Acknowledge the administration’s acceptance of the retirement resignation of Dorothy Schultzenberg, thanking her for 23 years of service to the District;

-Acknowledge the administration’s acceptance of the retirement resignation of Tom Oberg, thanking him for 34 years of service to the District;

-Acknowledge the administration’s acceptance of the retirement resignation of LaDonna Wessel, thanking her for 31 years of service to the District.

Mitchell adjourned the meeting at 8:45 p.m.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given that the Stearns County Planning Commission, in and for the County of Stearns, will conduct the following public hearings:

1. To consider a request to amend the subdivision agreement for “Pleasant Pines” submitted by CJ Douglas LLC, Watkins MN according to Stearns County Subdivision Ordinance #230 and Land Use and Zoning Ordinance #439.  “Pleasant Pines” is located in part of the E1/2 of the NE1/4, lying westerly of US Highway 71 and southerly of State Highway 28 in Section 21, Sauk Centre Township (126/34).

2. To consider a request for an interim use permit submitted by Josh Wolbeck, Sauk Centre MN according to Sections 4.18, 6.55 and 9.1.6B of Stearns County Land Use and Zoning Ordinance #439 to locate a temporary single family dwelling unit in the existing farmyard for farm help or a family member for a period of 25 years.
