Sauk Centre, B-B-E speech sends 13 to state

The speech teams from Sauk Centre and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa will be well-represented at the Class 1A state speech meet after both teams had terrific showings at the Section 5A meet in Melrose on Saturday.

Sauk Centre had four team members earn section championships, while B-B-E had three team members take first place in their respective categories. Team standings were still being computed as this story was posted.

Heading to the state speech meet from Sauk Centre are Sarah Nelson (first place in great speeches), Charlie Barhorst and Richard Polipnick (first place in duo interpretation), Lily Satterlee (first place in poetry) and Briana Ziemer (second place in drama) and Rebecca Engle (second place in original oratory).

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa's state-bound speech team members are Joe Reller and Riley Schumann (duo), Courtney Brandt (extemporaneous reading), Adrian Laage (humor), Tiras Dotson (first place in humor), Katie Hieserich (first place in original oratory) and Molly Tengwall (first place in storytelling).

The Class 1A state speech meet is on Saturday, April 12 at Blaine high school.
