Helen Cheney, age 90 of Clarissa, (formerly of Eagle Bend) passed away on April 25, 2014, in Clarissa at the Central Todd County Care Center.
Funeral services for Helen will be held on May 2, 11 a.m., at the Esther Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie, with Pastor John M. Riggle officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, 5-8 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Clarissa and on the day of the funeral starting at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be held at Esther Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie.
Helen was born on April 10, l924, in Melrose to Alfred and Elizabeth Rodgers (Kettler). She married Wayne Cheney in Sauk Centre. They lived on several farms at Long Prairie until 1953, when they moved to a dairy farm in Eagle Bend. Wayne and Helen lived at Eagle Bend for 50 years. Helen managed an income tax preparation service for many years. Her focus in life was grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of cooking and baking provides many memories of muffins, cookies and bars. She loved to adapt recipes with apples from their yard and vegetables from the garden.
Helen moved to Long Prairie in 2006, and to the Central Todd County Care Center Assisted Living in 2013.
Helen is survived by her children, Verna Kay Toenyan of Long Prairie, Linda Klimek (Michael) of Long Prairie; grandchildren, Cindy Hoeppner, Lori Orlikowski, Annita Winkels, Amye Levin, Michele Klimek and Mark Klimek; sister, Margaret Samuelson (Verner) of Sauk Centre; brother, Edward Rodgers (Adeline) of Eagle Bend; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; daughter, Carol Jean; and sibling, Fred Rodgers.
