Search continues: Police do not believe Starbuck woman left voluntarily; they are looking for a 1997 GEO Prism with loud exhaust


Laurie Ann Schwendemann was last seen at the Holiday Gas Station in Alexandria on Oct. 14. Police are looking for a vehicle that could be linked to the case.

The Douglas and Pope County Sheriff's Offices continue to investigate the disappearance of Laura Schwendemann, who has been missing since October 14th, 2015. Investigators do not believe Schwendemann left voluntarily. Based on information developed to date, investigators do not believe there is an ongoing risk to public safety. As part of the investigation, investigators are asking the public to report sightings of a 1997 black Geo Prism with a loud exhaust which occurred only within a specific timeframe: Wednesday, October 14th at 9:30 PM to Thursday, October 15th at 10:30 AM. SUV collides with fire truck on I-94; traffic backed up

A SUV collided with a Melrose fire truck on Interstate 94 Tuesday afternoon west of the Melrose exit causing traffic to be backed up for miles as the westbound lane was closed while crews cleared the area. Sauk Centre Ambulance was called out to the scene. It is unknown what caused the accident or the extent of any injuries. It has been reported their was an initial rollover that the fire department responded to. The fire truck was then hit by the van. A third accident caused by the backup has also been reported. Traffic delays were expected to last 80 minutes.

New information in case of missing woman


Laura Schwendemann was last seen at the Holiday Gas Station on 50th Avenue in Alexandria at approximately 9:29 PM on Oct. 14.

New information has been obtained by the Pope County Sheriff's Office in regards to the disappearance of Starbuck woman who was last seen in Alexandria.
**The Sheriff's Office is requesting assistance with locating a blue colored residence with a statue approximately three feet tall near the end of the driveway. The statue is described as having blue clothing and a red hat. This location is only being sought as a general area the missing person may have been observed. If this describes your residence or you have information of this residence, please call either the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at 320-762-8151, or the Pope County Sheriff's Office at 320-634-5411.

Heal Our Heroes raises $6,000

The second annual Heal Our Heroes event was another success, raising $6,000 for the Eagle’s Healing Nest in Sauk Centre and raising awareness to help prevent suicides amongst military veterans. Dozens of people gathered at the Nest on Saturday morning and participated in a 5K run/walk.
