Andreas Tobler

Andreas Tobler, age 91 of Maple Grove, formerly of Sauk Centre, passed away on March 20, 2017. Preceded in death by parents, August and Elise Tobler; stepmother, Rosa Tobler-von Schenck; brothers, Meinrad and Daniel; sisters, Roswitha and Annemarie. Survived by wife, Alice of Maple Grove; son, Mark (Linda) of Blaine; daughter, Emily (Jeff) Cavins of Maple Grove; son, Michael Tobler of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jake) Petrowitz, Andrea Tobler (Andrew), Carly (Patrick) Felicetta, Jaki Cavins, Toni Cavins, Dylan Tobler, Tristan Tobler, Keegan Tobler and Kierra Tobler; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Dominic, Francesco; brother, Peter Tobler (Gerda) of Reinach, Switzerland; sister-in-law, Suzanne Tobler of Basel, Switzerland; nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday at Cross Winds United Methodist Church (15051 Weaver Lake Rd., Maple Grove). Visitation 5-8 p.m.

Michael A. Brunette

Michael A. Brunette, age 27 of Melrose, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose with Rev. Mitchell Bechtold officiating. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in New Munich.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Michael Anthony Brunette was born June 19, 1989, in Lansing, Mich., to Thomas Metzger and Antonia Brunette. Michael graduated from Melrose High School in 2007. He worked at various businesses throughout the Melrose community including Casey’s, Dollar General and John Dough’s, and most recently was working at Perkins in Alexandria. Michael worked out daily at Snap Fitness and had just lost 50 pounds.

Robert G. “Bud” Fletcher

Robert G. “Bud” Fletcher, 100, died Friday, March 17, 2017 in Sauk Centre. Bud was born Dec. 29, 1916, in Aberdeen, S.D., where he enjoyed an idyllic childhood with his parents, George and Minnie (Balle) Fletcher, his two older brothers, Howard and “Boone” (Frederick), and his older sister, Jane. The foursome spent their summers fishing and swimming on Big Sand Lake near Dorset, with their grandparents and cousins.
Bud graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Iowa in 1939 and followed his older brothers into the FBI that same year, serving briefly as a messenger, file clerk and tour guide before becoming a Special Agent from 1941 until he retired in 1972.

Valentine B. Gieske

Valentine B. Gieske, age 89 of Melrose, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Marvin Enneking presiding. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 19 and from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, March 20 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Bernard Council prayed at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

Margaret R. DuBois

Margaret Regine DuBois, 91, of Sauk Centre, died Thursday at St. Cloud Hospital.
Her three children, Jeanne Woodward, John DuBois and Lisa DuBois-Schmitz, along with her granddaughter, Chelsea Schmitz, were at her side, holding her hands, playing music she loved and assuring her that it was alright to join her beloved husband, David DuBois, grandson Neil DuBois and best friend Viola Bromen on the other side.
In the precious few hours and days before death, Margaret’s eyes glistened, her smile widened and her spirit soared to see her entire family rush to her side to say goodbye.

Lorraine B. Hoeschen

Lorraine B. Hoeschen, age 86 of Freeport, died peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2017, surrounded by her family at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Eberhard Schefers officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Freeport. Goldenaires Senior Citizens and Christian Women will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Grace L. Lamb

Grace L. Lamb, age 99 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at her home at Fairway Pines in Sauk Centre.
A family graveside service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Grace Lillian Lamb was born April 18, 1917, in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Alvin E. and Mary (Frisk) Lamb. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School and the Sauk Centre Teacher Training Department. Grace furthered her education by graduating from St. Cloud State College with a degree in elementary education. Her teaching career spanned 40 years. It began in the rural school of District #49 in Stearns County and continued at Becker, Pine City and many years at Whittier School in Brainerd.
She was a life member of the United Methodist Church. Grace was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Education Association and a member of the National Retired Teachers Association.

Ferdinand J. Stepan

Ferdinand J. “Ferdie” Stepan, age 97 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Sudhansu Kumar, O.S.B. and Rev. Tim Wenzel concelebrated with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers were at 5 p.m. followed by the rosary led by the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dale Richard Merten

Dale Richard Merten, 53, of Holmen, Wis., died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in his home. He was born on Dec. 29, 1963, in Sauk Centre, to Anthony and Rose (Wiess) Merten. He grew up in Sauk Centre, and graduated from Sauk Centre high school in 1982. He graduated from NDSU with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1987. He worked as a civil engineer for Los Angeles County for two-and-a-half years before moving back to the Midwest to work for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, La Crosse office, where he worked for WisDOT for 26 years. In 1987 he married Linda Betow. They were married for 27 years before divorcing. They had two sons together Jeffrey and Paul. He enjoyed fishing, repairing cars, home improvement projects and camping. As a family they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

Earl R. Wiehoff

Earl R. Wiehoff (owner of Earl’s Bar), age 93 of Melrose, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Long Prairie.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard. A celebration of life will continue after the inurnment at the American Legion in Melrose.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10-11 a.m. Friday, March 10 at the church in Meire Grove. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and the Melrose Fire Department Thursday evening at the funeral home.
