David A. Otte

David A. “Dave” Otte, age 55 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
David Alan Otte was born Dec. 28, 1959, in Sauk Centre to Bernard and Leora (Beidleman) Otte. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1978 and completed a program with aviation mechanics at Dakota Aero Technical College in Fargo, N.D. On Dec. 22, 1989, he married Lisa Egan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. For the last 20 years, Dave was employed at Spartan Nash in St. Cloud. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church.

Lana M. Martin

Lana M. Martin, 35 of rural Sauk Centre died on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, in Uganda, Africa, while visiting her sister.
Lana’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Faith Mennonite Church in rural Sauk Centre. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. and continue on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Fellowship Hall in Belgrade. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade. www.hafh.org.

Matthew C. Schlaak

Matthew C. Schlaak, age 31, of rural Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake. Rev. Philip Beyersdorf officiated. Interment was in Grove Lake Cemetery.
Matthew Christopher Schlaak was born to Wayne and Nancy (Poock) Schlaak on Jan. 3, 1984, in Waseca. Matt attended and graduated from B-B-E high school in 2002. Known to his family as a “sports nut,” Matt spent most of his time cheering on Minnesota sports teams and when his team wasn’t doing well, he turned to the Food Network and began watching. Matt was always positive about his struggle with the effects of spina bifida and rarely complained.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake.

Audrey C. Hoffmann, age 91, of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minn.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Friday, Oct. 30, at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Inurnment will take place later at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota.

Frank Sunder, age 71 of Sauk Centre, passed away on Sunday evening, Oct. 25, 2015, at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Lillian Building in Osakis with Fr. Greg Paffel officiating. A reception will take place after the service in the fellowship hall downstairs.

Elmer J. “Porky” Hoeschen
Elmer J. “Porky” Hoeschen, age 92 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Freeport, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Inurnment was in the parish cemetery.
Elmer Joseph Hoeschen was born June 28, 1923, in Freeport to Hubert and Mary (Barhorst) Hoeschen. He attended Sacred Heart School in Freeport though the eighth grade. Porky was a milk tester for DHIA his entire life. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle and the Albany Knights of Columbus Father Pierz Council #3628. Porky helped establish the Mid-Central Softball League. He loved to go fishing and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers baseball team.

Rosella (Rutten) Boogaard, age 95 of Osakis, passed away on Monday evening, Oct. 19, 2015, at her granddaughter’s home in rural Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Resurrection was held on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis with Fr. Dave Petron officiating. Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis.
Rosella Marie Rutten was born on May 8, 1920, in her home in Butler to Joseph and Katherine (Dykhoff) Rutten. She married John M. Boogaard at Holy Cross Church in Butler on her twentieth birthday, May 8, 1940. They began dairy and grain farming in Butler. The Boogaards moved to the Osakis area in 1953.

Ernest B. “Ernie” Uhlenkamp, age 83 of Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at the Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Rev. Peter Kirchner officiating. Father Greg Paffel con-celebrated at the mass. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Ernest Bernard Uhlenkamp was born Oct. 16, 1931 in Cando, N.D., to Carl and Alice (Quackenbush) Uhlenkamp. On June 1, 1957, he married Bernice Kortan at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Ernie served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 67 in Sauk Centre. He farmed in Getty Township where he raised and milked dairy cattle and crop farmed until his retirement in 1999. After retirement, Ernie became the playground supervisor at Holy Family School in Sauk Centre for many years.
