Leonard B. Ritter
Leonard B. Ritter, age 83 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at the CentraCare Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
A gathering was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. A private family inurnment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Ward Springs.
Leonard Bernard Ritter was born Oct. 25, 1932, in Birchdale Township, Todd County, to Paul and Rose (Minette) Ritter. He completed school until the 8th grade at Ward Springs Country School. On Feb. 5, 1964, he married RoseMary Louise (Erpelding) at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Watkins. The couple raised their eight children on the farm before separating years later. Leonard farmed and was employed at Fingerhut in St. Cloud for many years. Leonard enjoyed spending time outdoors, being with his family and talking smart at the cabin.

Edna Karsten

Edna Karsten
Edna Karsten, age 92, of Allentown, Pa., formerly of Sauk Centre, passed into eternal life Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Cedarbrook, Allentown, Pa. Edna was born Feb. 18, 1923, in New Richland, the daughter of Arthur and Emelia (Zwar) Schwenke. She was united in marriage to Carl Karsten. Edna was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie, Pa, and an active member of their sewing group. She volunteered at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown, Pa., where she earned awards for the highest volunteer hours. As a volunteer, Edna fulfilled any task given to her including collating the Sunshine News, working at the gift shop, and playing pinochle with the residents. She was loved and admired by residents, other volunteers and staff.

Kenneth A. “Ken” Krebsbach, age 68 of Lacombe, La., passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Greg Paffel will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Donald H. “Don” Fritzlar, age 84 of Sauk Centre, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Military honors were provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.

David A. Otte

David A. “Dave” Otte, age 55 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
David Alan Otte was born Dec. 28, 1959, in Sauk Centre to Bernard and Leora (Beidleman) Otte. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1978 and completed a program with aviation mechanics at Dakota Aero Technical College in Fargo, N.D. On Dec. 22, 1989, he married Lisa Egan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. For the last 20 years, Dave was employed at Spartan Nash in St. Cloud. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church.

Lana M. Martin

Lana M. Martin, 35 of rural Sauk Centre died on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, in Uganda, Africa, while visiting her sister.
Lana’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Faith Mennonite Church in rural Sauk Centre. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. and continue on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Fellowship Hall in Belgrade. Matthew C. Schlaak

Matthew C. Schlaak, age 31, of rural Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake. Rev. Philip Beyersdorf officiated. Interment was in Grove Lake Cemetery.
Matthew Christopher Schlaak was born to Wayne and Nancy (Poock) Schlaak on Jan. 3, 1984, in Waseca. Matt attended and graduated from B-B-E high school in 2002. Known to his family as a “sports nut,” Matt spent most of his time cheering on Minnesota sports teams and when his team wasn’t doing well, he turned to the Food Network and began watching. Matt was always positive about his struggle with the effects of spina bifida and rarely complained.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake.

Audrey C. Hoffmann, age 91, of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minn.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Friday, Oct. 30, at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Inurnment will take place later at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota.

Frank Sunder, age 71 of Sauk Centre, passed away on Sunday evening, Oct. 25, 2015, at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Lillian Building in Osakis with Fr. Greg Paffel officiating. A reception will take place after the service in the fellowship hall downstairs.

Elmer J. “Porky” Hoeschen
Elmer J. “Porky” Hoeschen, age 92 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Freeport, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Inurnment was in the parish cemetery.
Elmer Joseph Hoeschen was born June 28, 1923, in Freeport to Hubert and Mary (Barhorst) Hoeschen. He attended Sacred Heart School in Freeport though the eighth grade. Porky was a milk tester for DHIA his entire life. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle and the Albany Knights of Columbus Father Pierz Council #3628. Porky helped establish the Mid-Central Softball League. He loved to go fishing and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers baseball team.
