Ferdinand J. Stepan

Ferdinand J. “Ferdie” Stepan, age 97 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Sudhansu Kumar, O.S.B. and Rev. Tim Wenzel concelebrated with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers were at 5 p.m. followed by the rosary led by the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dale Richard Merten

Dale Richard Merten, 53, of Holmen, Wis., died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in his home. He was born on Dec. 29, 1963, in Sauk Centre, to Anthony and Rose (Wiess) Merten. He grew up in Sauk Centre, and graduated from Sauk Centre high school in 1982. He graduated from NDSU with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1987. He worked as a civil engineer for Los Angeles County for two-and-a-half years before moving back to the Midwest to work for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, La Crosse office, where he worked for WisDOT for 26 years. In 1987 he married Linda Betow. They were married for 27 years before divorcing. They had two sons together Jeffrey and Paul. He enjoyed fishing, repairing cars, home improvement projects and camping. As a family they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

Earl R. Wiehoff

Earl R. Wiehoff (owner of Earl’s Bar), age 93 of Melrose, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Long Prairie.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard. A celebration of life will continue after the inurnment at the American Legion in Melrose.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10-11 a.m. Friday, March 10 at the church in Meire Grove. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and the Melrose Fire Department Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Duane A. “Dewey” Reznechek

Duane A. “Dewey” Reznechek, age 68 of Annandale, died unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at Buffalo Hospital in Buffalo.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Father Greg Paffel officiating. Military honors will be held right after the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. and will continue after the service until 5 p.m.

Anna C. Herickhoff

Anna C. Herickhoff, age 106 of Elrosa, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose with her family at her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with the Rt. Rev. John Klassen presiding with Father Peter Kirchner and Father Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. The Rosary and parish prayers will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Virden M. Olson, age 93 of Sauk Centre passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at CentraCare Health Care Center in Sauk Centre, surrounded by his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church with Father Suhdansu and Father Andrew Marthaler concelebrating. A family inurnment service was held in Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Sauk Centre.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. Parish prayers were said at 4 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Elizabeth “Betty” Schimmel

Elizabeth “Betty” Schimmel, 85 years, 5 months and 6 days, Grey Eagle passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, after a rich life with family and friends.
Elizabeth “Betty” Theresa VanHavermaet was born Aug. 28, 1931, in North Germany Township, the daughter of Henry and Lizzie (Huhne) VanHavermaet. She was the youngest of 11 children. She grew up and attended school in Stearns County. At age 19, on Nov. 22, 1949, she and Ervin Ceminski were united in marriage. During 13 years of marriage they were blessed with four children. Betty then married Fred Schimmel on June 15, 1970, and they enjoyed 13 happy years together before Fred’s death in 1983.

Alvina M. Bayer, age 97, of Elrosa and Lake Miltona, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Father Peter Kirchner presiding.
Visitation will be from 9-10:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa.
Alvina Mary Essler was born June 27, 1919, in Padua, the daughter of Joseph and Theresia (Derschel) Essler. On Nov. 25, 1941, Alvina was united in marriage to Edmund Matthew Bayer in St. Anthony Catholic Church of Padua, and made their home in Elrosa. Alvina was the proud mother to six children and she also worked with her husband at Skeeter’s Bar in Elrosa until 1977. Soon after retirement, Alvina and Edmund moved to Lake Miltona in Leaf Valley Township, Douglas County. Pine Villa Care Center became her home in 2014.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Thursday in the upper gathering space at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers were at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Keith F. Jungers, age 67 of Sauk Centre, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
