Mass of Christian Burial for Steven Kane, 65, of Marshall, was at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.

Lars Anderson

Lars Anderson
Lars Anderson, 87, of Belgrade, died on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. Burial was in the church cemetery. A visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and continued one hour prior to the service at the church. www.hafh.org
Lars Anderson was born on Feb. 26, 1929, on the family farm in rural Hawick, the son of Leonard and Barbara (Tjernagel) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Hawick. Lars grew up on the family farm where he attended a country school completing the 8th grade. In 1952, he entered the United States Army. He served his country in Heidelberg, Germany, until 1954, when he earned his honorable discharge.

Gerald J. Meier

Gerald J. Meier, 68 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Patton-Schad Funeral Home and continues on Friday, Aug. 26 from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay (Merten) Meier; daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Cory Sabrowsky of Sartell; son, Jeremy and his girlfriend, Heidi of Duluth; grandchildren, Kenna, age 9, Keaton, age 6, and Cannon, age 3; sister, Kathy Salaymeh; and brothers, Gary Meier and Jeff Meier; other relatives and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence and Lorraine (Sieben) Meier and his in-laws, Virgil and Marie Merten.

Viola M. Bromen, age 89 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at Fairway Pines in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating and Rev. Richard Gans, Rev. Thomas Myboya, and Rev. Andrew Marthaler concelebrating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.

Frances C. Borgerding

Frances C. Borgerding, age 91 of Freeport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. The Goldenaires Senior Citizens and Christian Mothers will prayed at 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Frances Catherine Kometscher was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Indianola, Neb. to Henry and Catherine (Kuppenbender) Kometscher. She was united in marriage to Alphonse Borgerding on Aug. 25, 1948, in Indianola. The couple came back to the family dairy farm west of Freeport and farmed until 1972. They moved into Freeport shortly after their retirement. For the past three years, Frances resided at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.

Rev. Ronald William Mahnke, age 75, St. Cloud, died Monday, July 18, 2016, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Sauk Rapids.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross
Lutheran Church, St. Cloud. Visitation was Friday, July 22, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Sauk Centre. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Ronald was born Feb. 19, 1941, in Carroll, Iowa to William H. and
Luella (Anton) Mahnke. After graduating high school Ron attended St. Paul’s Jr. College at Concordia, Mo., Concordia Senior College at Ft. Wayne, Ind.and Concordia, Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., where he received a Master of Divinity Degree in 1968.

Tom L. Schwieters

Tom L. Schwieters, age 67 of Melrose, died unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at his home, after a ten year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Mitchell Bechtold and Rev. Daniel Ohmann concelebrating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers were at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jonathan W. Schlaak

Jonathan W. Schlaak, age 44 of the Padua area, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at the home of his parents from complications of diabetes, which he dealt with since age 7.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake with Rev. Philip Beyersdorf officiating. Family inurnment service will be held at a later time.
Visitation was from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Jonathan Wayne Schlaak was born on Nov. 26, 1971, to Wayne and Nancy (Poock) Schlaak in Waseca. He attended elementary school at Peace Lutheran School, 9th grade at Bethlehem Academy, and then senior high all in Fairbault. He graduated from Fairbault Senior High School in 1990. Jon then went on to Alexandria Technical College to work on small engines and later on went to Ridgewater College in Willmar for welding.

Elizabeth A. ‘Bette’ Michels

Elizabeth A. “Bette” Michels (Schammel), age 79 of Belle Plaine, formerly of Shakopee and Sauk Centre, passed away Aug. 3, 2016, at Kingsway Retirement Community in Belle Plaine.
Bette was born in Rose Creek on Dec. 9, 1936. She married Robert (Bob) Michels on Dec. 27, 1955.
They raised six children living the majority of their married life in Shakopee, but enjoyed spending summers at their cabin in Sauk Centre.
Bette was a homemaker, a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Shakopee and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Sauk Centre as well as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed her work at Michel’s Accounting and Tax alongside Bob and had many fond memories working at the A & W in Shakopee.
