Sauk Centre man injured in New Year’s Eve crash

A Sauk Centre man was injured in a one-vehicle accident on New Year’s Eve in Sauk Centre on Highway 28.
The man was traveling eastbound at approximately 9:30 p.m. in a pickup truck on Highway 28 when he went off the road and hit a tree at 375th Ave.
Gregory L. Thooft, 31, was transported to St. Cloud Hospital and was listed in serious condition.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health spent the better part of the spring months sampling flocks for the virus. Although it was said the avian flu could not affect human health, a direct cause and cure for the virus was never determined.

Tracks in snow lead police to burglar

A Sauk Centre man was arrested and charged with breaking into a home on the 600 block of Ash Street on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 3:33 a.m.
Robert Henry Quade, 21, of Sauk Centre was arrested and brought to Stearns County jail on charges of burglary.
According to the Sauk Centre Police Department, officers were called to the 600 block of Ash Street on a report of a residential burglary. Officers found the door to the residence had been kicked in and items from the home were missing. Officers were able to follow foot tracks in the snow to a residence where Quade was located. The report stated that charges are pending for two other males for aiding and abetting.

School Christmas programs Dec. 10 and 15

Sauk Centre Public School and Holy Family School will be holding their annual Holiday/Christmas programs again this year.
Sauk Centre Public School will host their program, “A Christmas Line,” on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. “A Christmas Line” will be performed by 5th and 6th graders and features Santa as a casting director for a Christmas show. The program will be held at the school auditorium and will also include holiday songs performed by grades K-6.
Holy Family School will host their program, “A Christmas Carol,” on Tuesday, Dec. 15. “A Christmas Carol” is about four angels who visit a little boy who is unwilling to share his money during Christmas. The angels teach the boy a lesson about sharing. The program will be held in the school’s gymnasium at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.

Community Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 26

The Rooney Family will be hosting the Sauk Centre Area Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 26 at First Lutheran Church.
The day will begin with a social gathering at 11 a.m., with hot cider and other beverages. The meal will be served at noon.
Volunteers will be accepting deliveries and takeouts. For those wanting a meal or meals delivered to their home they can call Darlene at (320) 217-3995 or Jacinta at (320) 260-6114.
Volunteers and donations are accepted and can also be arranged by calling Darlene or Jacinta.
Rides are available by calling the above numbers. The Rooneys will be preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal. There is no cost for those who attend.

This year marks the 20th annual Thanksgiving Dinner and the 22nd annual Christmas Dinner for our community. The Rooney Family is again coordinating the Thanksgiving Dinner, and the Jungers Family will continue to head up the Community Christmas Dinner.

Man traveling 111 mph arrested for felony DWI

A Sauk Centre man was arrested for felony DWI at approximately 12:20 Thursday morning after being stopped for going 111 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone.
Wade Richard Holck, 30, was arrested after failing a field sobriety test and booked into Stearns County Jail. The case has been forwarded to the Stearns County Attorney’s Office.
According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Holck was traveling at the high rate of speed on Highway 71 and County Road 187 south of Sauk Centre when he was pulled over by a Stearns County deputy. Standard field sobriety tests were conducted and Holck was subsequently placed under arrest. A review of his previous history resulted in the DWI charge being a felony. He was also charged with driving after cancellation.
