Close calls and curtain calls.
That’s what the section track meet was all about for the Sauk Centre girls’ and boys’ track squads Thursday in Moorhead.
Senior hurdler Ben Frericks missed out on a trip to state by a half second while the girls squad will send five to state thanks to the 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams continuing their dominance.
Senior Bryce Hentges missed out on a trip to state by an inch and a half in the triple jump. He also had a “jump off” in the high jump, but was beaten, ending his outstanding athletic career at Sauk Centre High School. The 4 x 800 boys’ relay squad also came close to qualifying. Isaac Winters, Tevin Luberts, Eddie Bosl and Mike Kluver finished a little more than four seconds off the pace with a time of 8:22.13. The time was good enough for second place at sections, but not good enough to get the team through. Still, the foursome put together one of the best relay teams the boys’ squad has had in recent years.
