Eugene R. “Gene” Gergen, 75, of Osakis, died peacefully, surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer March 25, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Long Prairie.

A Requiem Mass will be held 10 a.m Tuesday, April 2, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Long Prairie with the Rev. Isaac Delmanowski officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Eugene Raymond Gergen was born Jan. 16, 1949, in Red Wing, to Isadore and Clarice (Keller) Gergen. Gene graduated from Rosemount High School and attended St. Thomas University. He was united in marriage to Catherine Brossard Nov. 25, 1978, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Pine Island. Gene farmed near Osakis for the past 20 years. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Long Prairie. Gene enjoyed deer hunting and repairing old machinery, and he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Cathy Gergen of Osakis; children Gene, Jr., John, Lisa, Denise, Deidre, Daniel, Desiree, Dominic and Diane; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Larry, Tom, Margaret and Pat; and many loving relatives and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son David Gergen; daughter Deanna Smith; grandson Michael Smith; and son-in-law Mark Ruegemer.

Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
